Rules overview
Mahjong is played with 136–144 tiles. A winning hand usually consists of 4 sets plus 1 pair. Sets can be sequences (chi) or triples (pong). You draw and discard to improve your hand toward a complete structure.
Winning (hu) judgment
When one tile away from completion, the hand is “ready” (tenpai). The tiles that complete the hand are your “waits”. Our drills train you to spot waits quickly, evaluate multiple waits, and identify the final tile that wins the hand.
Scoring basics
Different rulesets score hands differently, but fundamentals are shared: base points for hand structure and extra points for special patterns. We provide a beginner friendly overview and link to detailed references in-app.
